I had such a great time photographing Emily. She is a really cool person that marches to the beat of her own drum (which I LOVE) and is an inspiration to me. Read through her interview questions. She is an old soul and wise beyond her years. Thanks Emily!!

1. Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?

Hopefully living in Japan as an English teacher, after graduating from Purdue or Ball State. I also hope to be married.

2. What has been the most memorable part of high school?

When my friend and I were in the talent show doing a comedic act. We dressed as a horse and did a weird dance. The whole audience was laughing!

3. Who in your life inspires you most and why?

My mom. She’s my rock and has done a wonderful job raising my brother and me, even when times are rough.

4. If you could sit down and share a meal with anyone (from the past already dead, or the present (maybe someone famous) who would you choose and why?

Probably Nellie Bly. She pretended to be dysfunctional so she could go into a mental asylum, exposing the horrible treatment and sanitation issues there in the 1880′s. It put a good name out for female’s in the work force (especially journalism). Really inspirational!

5. If you could give any advice to an upcoming freshman about high school what would you say?

Work hard now! It pays off later. Don’t suffocate yourself in work, either. Find a balance where you can have fun while still staying ahead in school.

6. If you could choose a dream job for the future what would you choose?

I want to teach English in Japanese through the JET program. Hopefully living in Fukuoka!

7.If there has been one experience that has shaped your life so far what was it and how has it changed you?

Definitely learning how to love myself. I was at a point in my life where I was not happy at all. Luckily, I have wonderful family and friends who have helped me discover the true meaning of life; love who you are and what you do.

8.. If you could spend one month in any place in the world where would you go?

Well, I want to live in Japan one day, so I’ll choose another place. Probably South Korea. The music from there is a lot of fun to listen to, and I heard the people there are super nice.

Normally its my job as the photographer to make my clients laugh, smile, and have a good time. However, during Laken’s senior portraits, she had me laughing. I could have put together a short “blooper” reel just from her session. Her lighthearted manner and easy smile is contagious, and she is a photographers dream with her natural modeling abilities! What a peach she is and I am so honored to have done her Senior Portraits. Read through her interview and leave her some love! She is a gem!

2014 Norwell Seniors: Laken will be carrying around some referral cards that get you (and her) some sweet deals! A Day With Laken Chaney:

1. Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?

Hopefully I will be married to the man of my dreams and living close to home. :)

2. What has been the most memorable part of high school?

Playing volleyball, basketball, and tennis. I have made so many great memories with all of my teammates. Sports have also taught me how to celebrate victory with humility, persevere through trials, appreciate teamwork, and respect authority.

3. Who in your life inspires you most and why?
Jesus is my biggest inspiration. My parents are second. I have watched my dad and mom live out what it means to Love God and Love People. I am so thankful for their influence in my life.

4. If you could give any advice to an upcoming freshman about high school what would you say?

To stay far away from drama, to smile every day, and to look for opportunities to let others know how special they are. High school goes by so fast. You only have four years to make an impact at your school!

5. If there has been one experience that has shaped your life so far what was it and how has it changed you?

Five years ago, my sister, Haley, was involved in a car accident that almost took her life. I quickly learned how fragile life is and how every day is truly a gift. I love my family!

6. If you could spend one month in any place in the world where would you go?

Anyplace where there is sand and sun

This is one of those special families that you want to turn into Extreme Makeover Home Edition, and not because they need a new house, but because they are just that special. They have taken in two littles into their home from Africa, and have a sweet daughter and baby on the way. Just those two sentences are an inspiration to me. I’m thankful to know Jeff & Sarah and look forward to watching all their littles grow!

This is Crew’s first year in school (preschool). I’m not sure what his educational future holds yet, whether he will go to school or be homeschooled. I don’t know how many chances I’ll have to make valentines for an in class valentines party so I decided that if this is our only year, I wanted to make them special for him. We had a little shoot around lunch time and then proceeded to make the cards and write down all his classmates names on them. Ridge made some too to hand out to his friends at the Y. I love their precious handwriting, and cute little faces.

This family is near and dear to my heart. We have shared many many great memories with them. Our early (or earlier) marriage years were spent living two doors down. We walked a lot, played at the park, laid out in the back yards, walk to the fair, walked, walked, talked, :) Did I mentioned we walked and talked a lot? Sarah and I had our first boys within a few months of each other. It was December and Crew was 3 months old, and Sarah was very pregnant and we were out there bundled up, pushing Crew around the neighborhood. I remember a few of our conversations when we said, “Someday we are going to look back on these days and say that these were some good days.” and we were right. We also traveled together. Pulled an all nighter driving down to Florida where Sarah and I drove most of the night (and talked of course). Went to Disney pre kids, Sarah and I laid out in Marco when it was 60 degrees (and got burnt somehow), laughed a lot, challenged each other a lot…yes, those were good days. But so is today. And we are still friends, just don’t walk as much. Every year I do a mini session for Klint and Sarah. This year the light and sun was just amazing. I’m thankful for our friendship and really enjoy documenting their super cute boys.

Jim & Emily were probably the most laid back engagement session we’ve ever shot. Jim laughed through the entire thing (which had me laughing). Their wedding was quaint and simple (pictures to follow next week). Emily put a lot of attention into the details (being a photographer herself) and it was a pleasure to work with both of them!

For those of you who are interested in a lake session, I will be doing one this summer. There will be a limited number of spots and it will be held at the Potowatami Inn on Lake James in Angola, Indiana. Contact us if you are interested!
